Referral to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation center and mortality among patients with severe 2009 influenza A(H1N1)

Three different methods were used to select control patients to be matched with the ones treated with extracorporeal support during H1N1 pandemic. Impressive survival benefits were found. Due to the difficulties of performing a normal randomized trial in this population, we absolutely believe it to be reasonable to accept the conclusions of this study and to translate them into clinical practice
