    • The ellipticity of a bond is quantified by a parameter, ε, which is a measure of the elliptical shape of electron density contour around the BCP. Single and triple bonds are symmetrical down the internuclear axis and therefore yield ε = 0, but any degree of double-bond character gives ε > 0. Thus, in the case of multiple bonds the ellipticity can be used as a quantitative index of the π character of the bond: Prentice-Hall: London.
