Correlation between single-slice muscle anatomical cross-sectional area and muscle volume in thigh extensors, flexors and adductors of perimenopausal women. Eur J Appl Physiol 2010; 110:91-97. This study describes the optimal site for a single thigh cross-sectional image to predict volumes of individual muscle groups. Extensors are best predicted at 20- 40% proximal distance, the best compromise for whole thigh volume was at the mid-point.
