To our knowledge, there is limited research investigating treatment barriers in BDD using Internet surveys and thus reaching a broad sample including individuals who had not yet been diagnosed and/or treated. Endorsed treatment barriers are mostly feelings of shame, but findings also point out that treatment dissemination and access is needed, and that BDD is still an often misdiagnosed and underrecognized disorder. This also applies to the article by Marques et al. [48].
