4 and filtered. Solvent was removed under reduced pressure and concentrated in vacuum to give the crude product. The crude product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (60-120 mesh) using ethyl acetate:n-hexane (1:5) as eluent to afford the 2-substituted benzothiazoles. Purity of compounds is checked by NMR and yields are based on benzothiazole. Conversion and ratios were monitored by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
