    • As far as we are aware, (i) Gemsurf (dicarboxylic acid-type anionic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Chukyo Yushi, (ii) Pellicer (reaction mixture of N -lauroyl-L-glutamate and L-lysine, followed by neutralization with NaOH) from Asahi Kasei Chemicals, and (iii) Hygenia (dipyri-dinium quaternary ammonium-type cationic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Tama Kagaku Kogyo
    • As far as we are aware (on July 2010), three kinds of gemini-like amphiphiles are commercially available in Japan from the following chemical companies: (i) Gemsurf (dicarboxylic acid-type anionic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Chukyo Yushi, (ii) Pellicer (reaction mixture of N -lauroyl-L-glutamate and L-lysine, followed by neutralization with NaOH) from Asahi Kasei Chemicals, and (iii) Hygenia (dipyri-dinium quaternary ammonium-type cationic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Tama Kagaku Kogyo.

    • The hydrocarbon chain length of petroselinic acid is the same as oleic acid, but the cis double bond lies in the 6-7 position, which is different from oleic acid (9-10 position). This difference in their chemical structures yields two kinds of gemini surfactants whose molecular symmetry is different with each other under a fixed total number of methylene units.
