As far as we are aware, (i) Gemsurf (dicarboxylic acid-type anionic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Chukyo Yushi, (ii) Pellicer (reaction mixture of N -lauroyl-L-glutamate and L-lysine, followed by neutralization with NaOH) from Asahi Kasei Chemicals, and (iii) Hygenia (dipyri-dinium quaternary ammonium-type cationic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Tama Kagaku Kogyo

As far as we are aware (on July 2010), three kinds of gemini-like amphiphiles are commercially available in Japan from the following chemical companies: (i) Gemsurf (dicarboxylic acid-type anionic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Chukyo Yushi, (ii) Pellicer (reaction mixture of N -lauroyl-L-glutamate and L-lysine, followed by neutralization with NaOH) from Asahi Kasei Chemicals, and (iii) Hygenia (dipyri-dinium quaternary ammonium-type cationic surfactants with two hydrocarbon chains) from Tama Kagaku Kogyo.

The hydrocarbon chain length of petroselinic acid is the same as oleic acid, but the cis double bond lies in the 6-7 position, which is different from oleic acid (9-10 position). This difference in their chemical structures yields two kinds of gemini surfactants whose molecular symmetry is different with each other under a fixed total number of methylene units.
