Discovery of a sexual cycle in the opportunistic fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus
-
This report describes the teleomorph of the medically important fungus Aspergillus fumigatus, named Neosartorya fumigata. This species has a heterothallic breeding system in contrast to most species assigned to this section. The presence of a sexual cycle could provide a valuable tool for genetic analyses and will facilitate research into the genetic basis of pathogenicity and drug resistance in A. fumigatus

Dandruff-associated Malassezia genomes reveal convergent and divergent virulence traits shared with plant and human fungal pathogens
-
This paper describes the genome of two Malassezia species that are involved in various skin disorders. A comparison is made with the genome of the phylogenetically distant C. albicans, which shares a similar niche on skin. In contrast, the genome of the phylogenetically closer-related species Ustilago maydis shows adaptations to its plant host
