    • term "aerogel" is originally defined as supercritically-dried gels, which naturally possess high porosity. Evaporativelydried gels are termed as "xerogel", in which porosity is in general partially or completely lost by shrinkage during drying. Today, the usage of these terms is somewhat confused; e.g. highly porous gels dried by evaporative drying are also called aerogels. The author uses the terms in accordance with the original definition to avoid the confusion and misunderstanding in this review
