As the emission quantum yield of 9 is 0.013, more than 98% of the excited state deactivates by radiationless decay, and more than 80% of the radiationless decay is due to intersystem crossing. With this figure, the triplet π-π* state is produced with an efficiency of about 80% from the singlet state. Additional indirect evidence of the high efficiency of triplet state population and enhancement upon introducing of halide atoms into aryl substituents can be derived from comparison of our results with literature data, where it was found that triphenylcorrole triplet state quantum yield is only 0.51, while pentafluorophenylcorrole has triplet state quantum yield as high as 0.71 (see ref.
