    • note
    • The excess of surfactant in between the silicate layers has no advantageous effect on the direct formation of polymer/clay nanocomposites by poisoning the cationic metal polymerization centres (see Ref. 11b).

    • note
    • Clay-metal catalysts were often reactivated by further addition of MAO cocatalyst just before or soon after the monomer injection. The added MAO may activate a fraction of the metal complex dispersed in the polymerization medium solvent causing the formation of highly active metal cations outside the interlayer spacing. In such a way the polymerization takes place in the homogenous conditions and very little clay was incorporated into the polymer.
