    • According to Premper (Ref.), the orientation of the finite out-of-plane component of P breaks the sixfold symmetry of the underlying contours, by removing the mirror planes which point along the tips of the outer blossomlike CE contours. These generic results can be applied to our system which has the same symmetry. The orientation of the Bi trimers leaves ΓKM ̄ as the only mirror plane. As a result, the symmetry-required orientation of P is satisfied only if the outer hexagon tips lie within the ΓMΓ ̄ rather than the ΓKM ̄ directions as in Fig.
