    • The correspondence between antinodal states and the c -axis transport is rigorously justified only for the simple tetragonal crystal structure. Corrections must be made for body-centered tetragonal structures like LSCO, where the effective t → 0 exactly at the antinodal wavevector. For this case van der Marel showed in Ref. that the antinodal contribution to the c -axis conductivity is somewhat suppressed. However, the large similarities in the c -axis transport and optical data for LSCO and Y123 (see Refs., for example) reinforce the notion that even in LSCO the interlayer properties are dominated by the antinodal region.

    • For a large range of underdoped cuprate superconductors, the value of the superfluid density is significantly larger than the spectral weight which is donated from low frequencies during the superconducting transition. This anomaly can be interpreted as a lowering of electronic kinetic energy in the superconducting state. For more details, see Refs. and references therein.
