The catalyst was recovered by filtration and washed with diethyl ether and dried at 60-70 °C, which was then dissolved in dilute sulfuric acid to transform it from (V) to (IV) oxidation situation. Zinc powder (5 mol %) was then added with constant swirling and warming to reduced V(V) to vanadium compounds with lower oxidation state (IV).
