Ligand 2 (34.2 mg, 0.101 mmol, tpy (46.9 mg, 0.201 mmol, Cu(NO3)2.3H2O (48.5 mg, 0.201 mmol) and NH4PF6 (163 mg, 1.00 mmol) were dissolved in MeCN (10 cm3) and H2O (10 cm3) while the solvent mixture was being heated. The reaction mixture was heated at reflux for 5 min, and was then left open to the air at room temperature overnight. The viscous blue oil that formed was dissolved in MeCN/CH2Cl2 (10 cm3, washed with water (2 × 10 cm3, and dried over MgSO4.Removal of solvent yielded a blue powder which was dissolved in MeCN. Crystals of [Cu2(tpy)2(2, PF6]4 and [Cu(tpy)2, PF6]2 were grown by diffusion of Et2O into the MeCN solution
