    • Tumor necrosis factor signaling mediates resistance to mycobacteria by inhibiting bacterial growth and macrophage death
    • In humans and mice, loss of TNF signalling leads to increased susceptibility to mycobacteria. Zebrafish morphants could still kill nonpathogenic E. coli but had reduced resistance to M. marinum. Blocking TNF signalling had no effect on macrophage recruitment and migration while granuloma formation was enhanced. Infection in knockdown fish resulted in increased macrophage necrosis. Macrophages could still kill nonpathogenic E. coli but had reduced resistance to M. marinum with the appearance of extracellular corded (filamentous form) mycobacteria.
