Efforts to avoid the iodido-chlorido scrambling by changing to non- chlorinated solvents such as CH3CN, THF and toluene led to the formation of either Pd black (in CH3CN) or intractable mixtures (in THF and toluene, Attempts to change the chloro atoms in 4 by salt metathesis with NaI in CH3CN were also met with no success. Finally, the oxidative addition of 4, 4'-dichloro-2, 2′, 3, 3′, 5, 5′-hexamethyl- 1, 1′-methylenedipyrazolium bis(tetrafluoroborate) with [Pd2(dba)3, PPh3 ceteris paribus also proved unsuccessful, owing to the stronger C, Cl bond as evidenced by the full recovery of the precursor salt
