54. Cuprous bromide was the catalyst of choice in the reaction of 7. A referee suggested that another catalytic cycle, which involves oxidative addition of 7 to cuprous bromide and subsequent insertion of benzyne, is possibly operative in this case
55. The reaction of (E)-cinnamyl bromide also gave 1:1 coupling products as minor components in 24% yield. A 1:1 coupling product of benzyne with propargyl bromide was detected by MS, however, we could not pursue the exact yield, since the isolation of the product was found to be difficult.
