The reaction was carried out at 0°C for 18-24 h after addition of a 1.0 M solution of diethylzinc in hexanes (2.2 mmol) to a solution of the appropriate aldehyde (1.0 mmol) and ligand (0.10 mmol) in toluene. The reaction was quenched with ammonium chloride and after work-up the product was purified by column chromatography. The ee for the product was determined by using chiral GC or HPLC
