    • If the concentration of an element near the sample surface is slightly underestimated by the program KONZERD (Ref.), there might remain some surplus events in the raw data. KONZERD interprets this surplus as a slightly higher concentration of the corresponding element in a deeper layer. Thus, an element profile might be artificially extended into the sample bulk, the corresponding effect being called "tailing" artifact.
