Identification of in vivo-expressed antigens of Staphylococcus aureus and their use in vaccinations for protection against nasal carriage. J Infect Dis 193 (2006) 1098-1108. Using human sera to probe expression libraries, a range of S. aureus antigens associated with human infection and nasal carriage were identified. IsdA was found to be required for nasal colonization in a cotton rat model and that vaccination with IsdA could prevent carriage, thus showing its potential as a human vaccine component.
