    • Propofol and midazolam inhibit conscious memory processes very soon after encoding: An event-related potential study of familiarity and recollection in volunteers
    • The authors investigated the effect of propofol and midazolam at doses used for conscious sedation. Assessing memory function of 32 volunteers with ERPs and using thiopental and dexmedetomidine as controls, the authors demonstrated that the effects of propofol and midazolam on long-term memory began within 30 s of encoding. Despite the common action of both drugs on g-aminobutyric acid receptors, a different mechanism for affecting memory was postulated

    • Nurse-administered propofol sedation for upper endoscopic ultrasonography
    • The authors evaluated the frequency of and the risk factors for complications associated with NAPS in a retrospective study analyzing 806 upper EUS procedures and concluded that, for upper EUS procedures, NAPS is well tolerated and may be performed without major complications. Four patients (0.5%) required assisted ventilation. Minor complications occurred in 21% of patients but were not associated with patient age, propofol dose or procedure time. This study showed that sedation-experienced nurses had fewer complications than those with little experience in this field
