At the appropriate time point (24, 48 or 72 h), 20 μl volume of cell titer reagent [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium, inner salt; MTS] plus phenazine ethosulfate) (Promega, Madison, WI) was added to each well. Plates were then returned to the incubator for 3 h. After this time, the plates were read on a Fluostar microplate reader at an absorbance of 490 nm.
