This is the first study to look at long-term mortality reflecting the actual clinical practice as it includes data from the general population of all ages, and, therefore, the results are more generalizable than most studies

Adherence to statin or aspirin or both in patients with established cardiovascular disease: exploring healthy behaviour vs. drug effects and 10-year follow-up of outcome. Br J Clin Pharmacol 2008; 66:110-116. This study was the first to examine the effects of prolonged adherence to statins and aspirin in a primary care setting. The study showed that the healthy behavior associated with medication adherence is not the cause of decreased mortality in statin users; adherence to statins, but not adherence to aspirin, was associated with decreased mortality.
