When Gerhard Ritter first published the complete text of this document in 1956 he said that it was 'generally known as the Schlieffen Plan'. Though dated 'December 1905', it was actually completed at the end of January 1906, which explains why it is also variously referred to as the 1905 memorandum or the 1906 memorandum (G. Ritter, The Schlieffen Plan: Critique of a Myth, trans. A. and E. Wilson, London, 1958, pp. 48, 133-34).

'Das Deutsche Heer in der Kriegsformation nach dem Stande von 1910', Reichsarchiv, Der Weltkrieg 1914 bis 1918: Kriegsrüstung und Kriegswirtschaft: Anlagen zum ersten Band (Berlin, 1930), table 13. The 1910 order of battle reflects the reorganization, that had taken place in 1904, when two of the five Kriegskorps were disbanded and most of their 16 active regiments allocated to reserve formations

By 1910 all of the reserve corps were properly constituted with 2 divisions each, but the erstwhile short, corps still included 15 two-battalion regiments, while one of them (the Vth Reserve Corps) had only 7 regiments instead of 8: see .Reichsarchiv, Kriegsrüstung⋯ Anlagen, table 13.

Asking Schlieffen: A Further Reply to Terence Zuber
-
To put the record straight, I must retract my previous inference that 27 reserve divisions were deployed in 1906/07 (T. Holmes, 'Asking Schlieffen: A Further Reply to Terence Zuber', War in History X, 2003, p. 467). But. I was not very far off the mark. The true figure was 20 reserve divisions, plus 14 reserve infantry brigades with 7 reserve divisions' worth of cavalry and artillery.
