Quantitative trait locus mapping for seed mineral concentrations in two Arabidopsis thaliana recombinant inbred populations
-
This study identifies more than 100 QTLs for seed concentrations of mineral elements using Columbia × Landsberg erecta and Cape Verde Islands × Landsberg erecta recombinant inbred lines. Candidate genes for QTLs are identified as potential targets for the biofortification of crops, but of particular interest are strong QTLs with no candidate genes, indicating the existence of novel genes affecting uptake and seed storage of mineral nutrients.

HarvestPlus: breeding crops for better nutrition
-
This article describes the aims of HarvestPlus, an international research program that aims to improve the micronutrient concentration of staple crops in developing countries by biofortification making use of both conventional breeding and biotechnological approaches. The relative utility of different analytical methods and genetic approaches is considered, as are the practical aspects influencing choice of crop varieties by the farmer.

Pfeiffer W.H., and McClafferty B. HarvestPlus: breeding crops for better nutrition. Crop Sci 47 (2007) S88-S105.
