7. We previously reported on the chemistry of C. mycofijiensis from Papua New Guinea collections in the Milne Bay region from depths above 25 meters. Our recent 2007 collections were off the coast of New Britain (Kimbe bay) at depths between 30 and 40 m, which may explain this observed regional biogeographical variation for the presence of the fijianolides and mycothiazole chemotypes.
8. There are many compounds whose names are based on the cacospongia prefix, such as the cacospongins, cacofurans, and the caco- spongionolides. To avoid confusion, the new name is based on an anagram of the organism genus.
