The flux of energetic electrons reaching the ASW decreases as the methanol coverage increases. However, a simple estimate of the reduction in the electron flux based on the gas-phase ionization cross section for methanol and the methanol coverage suggests that this effect is not large enough to account for the observations. Including the reduction in the flux reaching the ASW layer due to the methanol calayer produces small changes in the model results.
