    • Visfatin: a protein secreted by visceral fat that mimics the effects of insulin
    • This study was the first to identify visfatin as a novel adipocytokine capable of mimicking the glucose-lowering effect of insulin. However, the data suggesting that it acted at the level of the insulin receptor were questioned resulting in a later retraction of this study (see reference [5]).
