2: To a stirred solution of 1 (0.873 g, 2.0 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) was added dropwise GaCl3 (0.387 g, 2.2 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (10 mL) at -60°C over a period of 15 min. The resulting red solution is stirred at -25°C for 4 h and is then warmed to ambient temperatures over a period of 1 h, resulting in a pale-orange solution. Removal of the solvent and drying in vacuo yields 1.767 g (1.96 mmol, 98, of 2 as a pale-yellow solid. Mp: 82°C (dec, Anal.
