Conventional CD spectrometers do no1 recognize the artifacts that can arise during analysis of media with mixed anisotropics. For example, when two type of linear anisotropics are present the combination 1/2(LBLD'-LB'LD) may be different from zero and erroneously inlerpeted as a CD signal (see ref. [3]) (LD and LB are the linear contributions at 0° and LD' and LB' those at 45°).

With our instrument, we cannot measure second-order contributions in colloidal solutions because of possible Brownian-rotation orientation of the long particles. Therefore the 0° and 45° measurements can only be performed in solid transparent samples

This does not exclude lhe chiral exciton coupling between transition dipoles due to the 2D/3D packing, which would explain how in this type of aggregates experimental conditions that lead to different particle sizes and shapes also lead to different shape CD spectra from monosignate to bisignate signals
