    • Zeise's anion in basic methanol solution undergoes, at room temperature, a rapid decomposition with formation of platinum metal. However, if the temperature is lowered to -20 °C, it is quite stable. After addition of the appropriate bidentate nitrogen ligand, the reaction mixture can be safely warmed to 0 °C. The formed compound 5 can be then separated by filtration The isolation of complexes 5 (Scheme 1) has been obtained also with other bidentate nitrogen ligands (such as N,N,N ′,N′-tetramethyl-1,2- cyclohexandiamine and N,N′-diterbutyl-1,2-ethandiamine)
