Funded by the Dutch IOP (Innovation Oriented Research) Self-healing Materials, we intend to use the bending curvature of coated metal strips to quantify the relaxation behavior of quadruple-hydrogen bond cross-linked polyurethane coatings, as function of (glass transition) temperature and time. The cross-links are based on ureido-pyrimidine (UPy, see ref. [7]) units also in combination with covalent urethane cross-links. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate that these coatings do not show macroscopic failure (film cracking) under conditions where conventional coatings would fail, as a result of the pre-emptive stress relaxation mechanism. At the same time it is necessary to preserve as much as possible of the typical covalent network characteristics, such as resistance to solvent swelling
