Characterization of the gene cluster responsible for cylindrospermopsin biosynthesis
-
This work describes the characterisation of the cylindrospermopsin biosynthesis gene cluster. The genetic information presented in this manuscript provides the foundation for current and future molecular detection methods for cylindrospermopsin-producing cyanobacteria. The work is equally as important as the pioneering studies describing the microcystin [13] and nodularin [15] gene clusters.

Biochemical characterization of paralytic shellfish toxin biosynthesis in vitro
-
This work describes the elucidation of the biochemical pathway for saxitoxin biosynthesis. Characterisation of the enzymes involved in cyanotoxin pathways is arguably the most challenging step in the development of molecular tests for toxic cyanobacteria and is crucial for 'narrowing down' the search for candidate toxin genes.
