67. The starting geometries were minimized using the MMFF ForceField within MacroModel. These minimized conformations were used as input for a Monte Carlo search to find the global minimum. All minimizations were calculated in chloroform as a solvent model to complete convergence. Monte Carlo searches were run until the global minimum was found more than once. The minimized conformation relevant for the Cornforth model was more stable than the first conformation which leads to the syn-configured addition product by about ΔE = 5.64 kJ/mol.
