    • The basis functions are simple Gaussians premultiplied by polynomials of order 0, 1, and 2 for s, p, and d, respectively. For l=2, our procedure includes six quadratic terms, which includes x2 + y2 + z2, i.e. an s -type contribution. Therefore, a s, p, and d basis set contains ten rather than nine independent Gaussian functions.
