    • 3 can be produced synthetically, but corundum is the only natural terrestrial form. All previously reported mineral classifications of presolar oxides, including corundum, spinel, and hibonite, were based on composition measurements and an assumption of the stable crystal structure. Our data demonstrate the danger of this historic assumption and argue for a return to the stricter terminology.
