    • HPC hydrogel nanoparticles were synthesized using the precipitation polymerization method. A typical procedure and recipe are listed as follows: 0.05 g HPC powder was dispersed in 99.95 g aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (pH 12) by gentle stirring for a period of 4-6 days until the HPC powder was thoroughly hydrolized. A total of 1.14 g of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide was added to 100 g of 0.05 wt % HPC solution, and the solution was stirred for 60 min. Then 0.1 g of cross-linker DVS was added to the HPC solution. This solution was then heated to about 77 or 78 °C. The reaction lasted for 3 h. The resultant nanoparticles were dialyzed for 1 week. Then, HPC nanoparticles were packed to the concentration of 4 wt % using ultra-centrifugation. The HPC nanoparticle network was made by adding DVS of 20% in a weight ratio of DVS to HPC in 3 wt % HPC solution at pH = 12. The network formation reaction was carried out at 15 °C for 2 days.
