Preparation of Ln(tptz)(NO3)3(solvent)n: Ln(NO3)3·6H2O (0.1 mmol) was dissolved in 3 mL of methanol. Gradual addition of a solution of 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3, 5-triazine (tptz) in methanol (3 ml) with stirring induced the precipitation of an off-white solid. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with methanol and dried in air. Yield 60-70%. Suitable crystals of Ln(tptz)(NO3) 3(solvent)n for X-ray crystallographic determination were obtained by slow diffusion of diethyl ether into a solution of the product in H2O-MeOH.
