    • Phase behavior of an ionic surfactant with mixed monovalent/polymeric counterions
    • It is demonstrated that the most important aspects of the phase behavior of polyelectrolyte-surfactant mixtures are displayed in true ternary phase diagrams where the surfactant ion-polyion complex salt is one component, thus avoiding complicated four-component diagrams. The work clarifies differences and similarities between polyions and simple ions as counterions to micelles with respect to phase stability and micellar morphology. The discussion about the importance of polyion bridging forces is very clear and insightful. These papers represent an outstanding contribution to the field of polyelectrolyte-surfactant interactions.

When the network charge is in excess the swelling ratio is found to remain low even for rather large deviations from charge stoichiometry. In contrast, the swelling increases rapidly with the excess charge when the sphere charges are in excess.
