61. The two-phase boundary in Figure 1 was determined at pH = 7, where ca. 70% of the polyacrylate units are charged; see ref 19. At pH = 9, a 5 mM PA solution was found to be stable up to surfactant concentrations just above 1 mM DoTAB.

For an understanding of the transitions between phases in the water-poor regions of the phase diagram, a detailed knowledge about the interactions between complexes involving several micelles is necessary. Here, studies of liquid crystalline phases in binary surfactant/ water systems have shown that even subtle free energy differences between different structures may have dramatic effects on the phase behavior.
