    • The scattering factors are determined by Kramers-Kronig transformation of the absorption data. The real part of the charge scattering factor for transition metals is usually negative for energies that are slightly lower than resonance energy. Since our chosen energy is 2 eV below the respective resonance energy for Ni and Co, the real part of charge scattering factor is negative for both Ni and Co. For representative shapes of Ni and Co scattering factors near their respective 2p resonance energy, see PRBMDO 0163-1829 10.1103/PhysRevB.57. 8408
