Although it seems plausible that the silyl-protected 1,2-PBD units could be removed during this reaction according to the cyclization route described by Watson and Wagener22 for the depolymerization of PBD, triethylsilyl peaks at 0.9 and 0.5 ppm were still observed in the 1H NMR spectrum.
