    • The orientation relationship between γ- and α-Al 2O3 was found by electron diffraction to follow [001] γ/[0001]α, 44̄0γ// (3030)α, which indicates that the close packed oxygen plane of (111)γ is not parallel to (0001)α as would otherwise be followed for a displacive-type transformation. Instead, the formation of textured {400} and {440} planes in the γ-Al2O 3 promotes the nucleation and growth of α-Al2O 3 along those planes.5
