    • During the period under study the term 'isotope' (and radioisotope) was used as synonymously with 'nuclide' (and radionuclide) and I preserve this usage. This also applies to the term 'atomic energy', which was used instead of 'nuclear energy'. Conversely, the word 'nucleonics' refers in general to the technological aspects of nuclear science at large, not just to the instruments themselves, by analogy with the word 'electronics'.
