    • note
    • During calcination, decomposition of ethane fragment (Si-C cleavage) leads to sequential reaction of the resulting Si atom with the adjacent silanol (Si-OH) group, forming a siloxane (Si-O-Si) group. The decrease in the number of silanol groups (condensation of silanol groups) leads to a hydrophobicity increase, while the decomposition of the ethane fragment leads to a hydrophobicity decrease. As a result of these, the resulting T-OS(10)-Cal catalyst shows the same high hydrophobicity as does the T-OS(10) catalyst.
