This much-cited publication has a problem, however, as was recently pointed out (T. C. Zook, G. T. Pickett, Phys. Rev. Lett. 2003, 90, 15502-1-015502-4): The method of de Gennes and Hervet leads to a maximum segment density in the core of the dendrimers if applied correctly.
