    • note
    • One referee commented: "The statement, that constant selectivity relationships will result when Hammond effects and frontier-orbital effects cancel, is not enough. It would be hard to imagine that these effects accidentally cancel in such an overwhelming number of cases. Is there something else that makes constant selectivity relationships the rule?" We fully agree with this statement. Unfortunately, we cannot give an answer and hope that this Minireview will stimulate theoretical chemists to suggest solutions.
