A community-wide outbreak of legionnaires disease linked to industrial cooling towers - how far can contaminated aerosols spread?
-
The investigators used environmental surveys, disease incidence and aerosol dispersion modeling to identify the most likely source of Legionella pneumophila that caused a community-wide outbreak of legionnaires disease in France. They provide evidence for the airborne transmission of Legionella bacteria at least 6 km from the putative source.
