    • The resistivity measurements were performed by using the samples which had been made under the same condition as those for the photoemission measurements. The samples for the resistivity measurements were grown on Nb-free SrTiO3 substrates to prevent the electric current from flowing through the conducting substrate.

    • There seems to be some change with temperature, but the change at 710 eV is not systematic. The change is too small to influence the strong temperature dependence of Fig. 3(a) considering that the 600 eV spectra also show temperature dependence similar to 710 eV spectra. Therefore, we believe that the change of 710 eV spectra reflects the intrinsic change of the Fe 3d PDOS. Moreover, the Fe 2p XAS of LFO (x = 0) also shows a similarly small temperature dependence (not shown), but there is no appreciable change in the 710 eV spectra of LFO [as shown in Fig. 7(a)].

    • The temperature dependence is not caused by a condensation of ice since such a change is not observed for x = 0, 0.2, and 0.4 (Fig. 8) taken under almost the same experimental conditions.
