    • Deuterium isotope effects attributed to isotopic labeling on the selectand enantiomers were found to decrease the binding between some cinchonane-type selectors relative to that observed with non-labeled guests. The result is a decrease in the diastereomeric complex ion abundance associated with the deuterated selectands. This change is attributed to the decreased van der Waals volume of deuterated carbons and the higher gas phase acidity of deuterated analytes relative to their nondeuterated counterparts. See:
